If I may paraphrase Mark Twain, the June AM News report of the cancellation of the Goodwood Family Driving Day is greatly exaggerated, for it is alive and well and will proceed on Friday 6 July.

The AMOC has arranged for its Members, their families and guests to have the opportunity to drive, at their own pace their Aston Martin, or other road car around the famous Goodwood Motor Racing Circuit. As many Members will know Aston Martin has a glorious history at Goodwood including winning the 1959 World Championship in the DBR1 – so you will be able to follow the tracks of Stirling Moss, the late Carroll Shelby and many other Aston Martin drivers.

This is NOT a race day and NOT a competitive event. And do not worry that it will be a crowded circuit, for cars will be split into five groups of five, and each group will then have eight 10-minute sessions throughout the day.

For those with a taste for improving their knowledge of the Goodwood Circuit, AMOC’s well-known racer and qualified ARDS Instructor Gillian Goldsmith will be available for instruction throughout the day.

Within your group, you will be able to enjoy, at your own pace, the delights of the Goodwood circuit, experiencing legendary corners such as St. Mary’s, Fordwater, Lavant, Woodcote and others. Plus the special moment as you drive along the Goodwood pit straight, all restored to modern day standards but with an authentic period charm.

As a Driving Day, it is the AMOC form of a relaxed track day with a social feel for you, your family or guests. It is encouraged that you bring a picnic or you can use enjoy refreshments from the Goodwood facilities. During the rest periods (there is an hour's break in between sessions) you can enjoy the sights of other cars on the circuit or in the paddock and socialising with other Members.

Please note that you do not have to drive an Aston Martin to be part of this day. Any marque is welcome – so maybe give that workaday steed a canter!

Places are strictly limited to 25 cars only and will be available on first come first served basis. Entries received after the 25 spaces will be placed on a reserve list.

Finally, the AMOC is pleased to announce that there is a price reduction, being

First car and driver – £320 (was £
Second driver - £50
Passengers - £10 each
Instruction - £20 per session

Subject to spaces, there may be an option for half day at £160.

What's the noise limit for this one? 10 min sessions with an hour waiting in between sounds like a ling wait. 8 sessions each is nine hours plus tracks usually have an hours lunch break means a ten hour day, is that correct?
Still burning hydrocarbons just for fun!

it's just that as a GRRC member I know Goodwood have what they call 'noisy days' where the limit is 105db but they are only allowed a certain number each year so I wondered if this was a 'noisy day' - I've always wanted to take my Griff 500 on a track day at Goodwood, that and Brands GP circuit - done the club circuit but I want to get it into the woods to stretch its legs!

We chose 25 cars so that the event can run at the maximum DB rating, being 105DB.

All standard specification Aston Martins or other road cars should have no problem, as this is the maximum noise level allowed by the MSA for Sports, GT and saloon racing cars at British circuits

I will be there with my GT4 car. It will be fitted with a passenger seat so there may be the opportunity to take some members round for a fast lap if there is any interest. JG

We are pleased to report that we have received considerable firm interest in this event, so much so that we are not far away from generating a waiting list.

If you are interested, please get in touch soon, so as not to miss out. More info on the Driving Day and how to book further up this topic.

I know it may be a bit premature and it may be better to start a new thread (over to you Webby), but if we are to have a Goodwood trackday in 2013 could we please revert to the old days when the trackday was the day before the AMOC Goodwood sprint.  This then made for a viable long weekend doing the trackday then the sprint the next day, plenty of tracktime finishing off with some serious competition.  Coming from the frozen North I cannot justify a day trip down South to do just one day at the track, so  I have recently missed both the trackday and the sprint.  I also think it rather dangerous competing in the sprint with only one sighting lap - it is a very quick circuit and needs a bit of practice to get up to speed.

Finally, if this is to happen could we try to not clash with the LeMans 24 Hours as has also happened in recent years.  I know we only have limited days available at Goodwood, but someone may not have given thought to these issues.

Anyone else any thoughts
