After the huge success of the 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed the provisional dates for the 2012 event have been released and are 28th June – 2nd July. Planning is well underway for what will be the Festivals 20th anniversary.

As part of the 2012 celebrations Goodwood are inviting a select number of UK car clubs for Members to display their cars in a dedicated display area. The AMOC, through the Social Committee, is invited and this, I understand, is the first time they have considered a car club display at the Festival.

The purpose of this post is to gauge interest. The AMOC has not committed to the event, because any approval has to be passed the CoM.

Each car being exhibited will entitle the owner to access to the Festival for all four days. However, Members can choose individual days they wish to attend and wrist bands will be provided for each day.

Unlike the Silverstone Classic, Goodwood appear to be very strict in movement of display cars. I understand that display cars MUST be in the Club area by 7am, and not leave by before 7pm. The FoS opens to the public at 7.30am so they want all cars in place by then. So, if you are interested, then be prepared for an early start.

I also understand that camping facilities may be available, but have not looked into that in much detail as yet.

No further details are available at present. At the moment, however, we do need to reserve a space (if we are going) so need to get a feel for a number of cars that may appear. The more cars going means that we will need to reserve a larger area. So, although it is early days, if this is of interest to you, please show your interest in this forum or drop me a PM. There is no obligation or commitment.

The AMOC will be charged by Goodwood for the area of the display, so naturally there will be an AMOC charge for Members attending to cover the cost - remember you do get 4 day admission tickets as part of deal. I am still working on the pricing and will let you know at a later date.

So if this is of interest - let me know for I will be the main point of contact and managing the display. What out for updates here and in AM News.

I doubt that Members will be able to attend for all 4 days. I will contact Goodwood and get back to you.

Garry, perhaps you could ask the FoS organiser to clarify if this is a way to park closer to the hill in a series of marque dedicated car park and if they expect cars to be there all the time i.e not available to go home in once on display.
Leaving it for 3 days is the case at the NEC Classic Car show (November 11th - 13th, come one, come all) but not at the Silverstone Classic where we/they encourage day-trippers.

Also, if they offer tickets for 4 days, are those tickets transferable ?

As an aside, what a pity they did not wait until their (IMO) more charismatic 21st birthday which would have neatly coincided with the Aston Martin's 100th....?

I have contacted Goodwood and have updated the original post.

John - I will leave a request with Lord March that he postpones his 20th anniversary celebrations for one year, so that its 21st ties in with AML 100 years. I am sure I know the answer already...

This is very interesting, bu I must add that it wouldn't be the first time our club was invited yo put on a display.
I organised one about 18 years ago, in the very early days of the event when it was far less commercialised. I remember it very well because when we erected an AMOC flag we drove the ground spike through a water pipe under the turf. They never caught us! Some things aren't easily forgotten!

Inforapound - A Brilliant photo - peter was much younger looking then but I think he still has the fetching yellow jacket.
Garry, I cannot help you any further with the CoM masters as I am now totally "persona non grata' with them
- it is what happens when you ask questions they do not want to answer! gunbarrel!

Once my membership is accepted I'd be up for displaying for all 4 days.

I will be up for bringing the DB7 Zagato and/or the DB7 AR1

OF course I would need a volunteer to drive one of them down there early in the moring!

Having examined the costs for the AMOC attending this event, to display our cars, it was excessive and proved to be more expensive for Members than if they purchased normal day tickets. Also some other conditons were too restrictive.

So I suggested at the recent SoCom meeting that this event is not considered and was agreed.

So the AMOC will not be at the FoS, but don't forget that we will be at the Silverstone Classic next year, where we hope to further improve our presence and experience for Members. Early Bird discounted tickets for the Classic will be available from December 2011, and more details in the December AM News next month.

Pity.  I'd have thought that the benefits of raising the profile of the club and marque might have warranted exploring some form of cost sharing with the factory?

It's the sort of thing in which I'd normally be interested.

However, in most years the FoS clashes with Henley Royal Regatta (2012 is another year where this is true).  As a rower, married to a coxswain, HRR takes precedence for family AZ.

2013 with the factory at the FoS and/or the Revival should be a given, n'est pas?
