Goodwood announces dates for the 2008 Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival

19/10/2007

The Earl of March – patron of the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival – has today announced the 2008 dates for these important annual motor sport events.

The Festival of Speed will take place over the weekend of 11.12.13 July. It will be the 16th running of this popular international motor sport event and promises to be packed with action and excitement as the world’s most exciting racing machinery and famous drivers gather together in the grounds of Goodwood House. The theme for this hillclimb event is currently under discussion and will be announced later this year.

The Goodwood Revival will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2008, as well as the 60th anniversary of the famous Goodwood Motor Circuit. This unique magical step back in time will be held over the weekend of 19.20.21 September 2008. The Revival recalls the halcyon days of motor racing as it used to be in Goodwood’s heyday up to 1966, with all of the accompanying spectacle and glamour of the era, with competitors and spectators alike dressed in period fashions. For 2008 Lord March and his team will be pulling out all the stops to create a truly memorable tenth anniversary spectacular.

Both of the 2008 Goodwood motor sport events promise an exceptional selection of the best machinery with a spectacular array of cars and motorcycles, plus fabulous star drivers and riders to thrill the crowds throughout the three days of both of these stunning events.

Confirmation of the 2008 Goodwood dates is subject to the FIA World Council finalising next year’s F1 calendar at its December meeting. However, it is not anticipated that these dates will need to be changed, so watch this space for final verification of the dates, plus all the latest news of these increasingly successful and delightful historic sporting and social weekends, with something for everyone!

As in previous years, admission to both of these Goodwood motor sport events will be strictly by advance ticket only, with sales commencing on Thursday 1st November 2007.

So the festival is going head to head with the Le Mans Classic again!!!

I do wonder if there is a clash of ego's here: someone is doing that deliberately to try and establish themselves as THE classic car event of the year. I fear the public, and th entrants stand to lose most.

I will be in France anyway so i know where my vote goes!

Maybe Goodwood, being the older more established event doesn't worry about the clash, but I would have thought most Continental Europeans would go to Le Mans and save on the channel crossing!  Then come for the revival in sept.

The last two years (FoS) we stayed at The Trooper Inn (www.trooperinn.com) near Froxfield. Not an hotel I know, but highly recommended if you like country Inns and (thus?) real ale. I've already booked for next year (Revival). About a 25 minutes (very scenic) drive from Goodwood.

I don't think so. The number of Astons I saw parked in the parking grounds the last three years was a bit disappointing to.
