I am sorry you can not make it!

There will be reports on the event on several places and you certainly will see pictures, at least!

Took the old lady for a spin to Bath yesterday (280 mile round trip) & she behaved perfectly.  After a quick check at Chiltern Aston next week she'll be ready to go and see the cows in Switzerland.

It was!  Now even my wife has an appreciation for these cars (after my owning it for 10 years). It was a perfect event over 3 days.

The whole story:-

Thursday 240806

We left home at about 2.30 am and travelled all the way to the EuroTunnel in torrential rain, getting the 6 am crossing. From Calais to Reims was also in torrential rain. By the time we reached the Chateau de Gilly between Nuit St Georges & Gevry Chambertin (South of Dijon) about 2 pm we were enjoying warm sunshine. Also by this time my air-conditioning was not functioning. The hotel was excellent.

Friday 250806

Left Gilly about 9 am and drove via Dijon, Dole, Besancon, Pontarlier across the border into Switzerland between Lausanne & Yverdon Les Bains. Plenty of tunnels. Lunch in the picturesque old town centre of Estavayer. Arrived at our destination hotel in Murten ‘Le Vieux Manoir’ early afternoon.  Beautiful hotel on the lakeside.

http://www.vieuxmanoir.ch/fr/vieux-manoir.html

From then on the other Lagondas started arriving. What is the collective noun for a group of Lagondas? We enjoyed warm sunshine all day. Enjoyed a group dinner in the White Cross Hotel in the historic town centre of Murten.

Saturday 260806

9 am in bright sunshine 15 cars assembled at Castle Muenchenwiler for Concours d’elegance.

http://www.schlossmuenchenwiler.ch/

Unfortunately, there was one Series 4 casualty which had to stay at the hotel in Murten due to a faulty starter. The participants were:

13007 Series 2 Harry Kielstra, Netherlands (LHD Prototype)
13049 Series 2 Roger Ivett UK
13171 Series 2 Bernard Berkein Belgium
13195 Series 2 Jean-Claude Dufetrelle France
13215 Series 2 Siem De Jong, Netherlands
13269 Series 2 Urs Baumann Switzerland
13307 Series 2 Ossi Bashiri UK/Sweden
13354 Series 2 Arthur Sutsch Switzerland
13406 Series 2 Richard Lay UK
13417 Series 2 Zoran Mitrovic Switzerland
13445 Series 2 Adrian Peter Switzerland
13471 Series 3 (Beat Roos, Switzerland)
13498 Series 3 Sieghard Schneider Germany
13515 Series 3 Olivier Maingard, Luxembourg
(13542 Series 4 Michael von Aretin Germany)
13641 Series 4 Dr Karl M Jacobs Belgium/Switzerland
(Without his car Rodney Howell USA)

Champagne brunch. 11 am cars left for tour up to Chasseral (1500m) which affords excellent views of the countryside with the Alps in the background. Display of the cars. Lunch. 2 pm tour to Le Locle via La Chaud de Fonds. Visited very fine watch museum (what else!). More hospitality, before returning to Murten through tunnels under Neuchatel.  7 pm champagne reception with Concours prize giving.  Judges
Mr Arthur Sutsch & Mr Beat Roos.
Winners:-

1.         Newer/late cars-Dr Karl M Jacobs (
2         Middle range cars- Richard Lay (
3         Earlier/original cars- Urs Baumann (

8 pm excellent dinner in Hotel Le Vieux Manoir followed by...I think I left the bar about 2.30 am?

Sunday 270806

10 am guided tour of the superb facilities of Aston specialist Roos Engineering Ltd near Berne.

http://www.roosengineering.ch/

Fantastic cars! A DB4GT Zagato and DB3S? to mention just two of many. More hospitality. 11.30 left in light rain and travelled via Basel (my god! it has changed since I lived there 40 years ago) towards Strasbourg. By the time we reached Strasbourg the rain was torrential and my power steering failed.  We soldiered on to our hotel the Chateau de Monthairons near Verdun.

http://www.chateaudesmonthairons.fr/

Amazing what a good French dinner and wine can do to put things right. Left hotel at 8.30 am in torrential rain & drove to EuroTunnel without power steering.. Headlights failed at Calais but it didn’t matter because the sun came out and the air conditioning started working again. When we arrived in England, the car wouldn’t start & we had to be towed out of the train. Marvellous! It started after a bit of tweaking (battery connection?) and we made our way home in the sun arriving about 4 pm.

It was a truly brilliant trip. The event was meticulously organised by Zoran Mitrovic, assisted by Arthur Sutsch, and supported by Beat Roos’ Roos Engineering Ltd.
The places, the people, and the cars…everything was perfect!

(I will post some pictures soon)
