Mrs Tunlaw and I are off for a week in Malta tomorrow.  By strange coincidence I see there is an event called the Valletta Grand Prix (http://www.vallettagrandprix.com) during our stay which includes a concours on Friday and racing on Sunday.  I doubt that Mrs T will provide a pass for both days.  Does anyone have any useful information about the event?  In particular, will there be any Aston representation in either the concours or the racing?

Thanks.

You could try contacting the Malta Area's representative, George Said. Contact details in the AM News magazine.

We have been to Malta also but not knowing where you are staying I could not tell you about the show you mention but if you are anywhere near Bigiba there is a really nice classic car museum there quite close to the bus station area. Its on a corner of a road and you have to go down stairs into the basement to see all the cars.

We stayed in Bigiba but travelled to Valetta and took the boat to the Blue Lagoon and saw the cliffs where they filmed the Guns of Navarone.

Plenty of Morris marina's and Hilman Hunters and mark 1 ford escorts knocking about over there too!!!!! funny really where they all end up.

Enjoy your holiday.

George Said is driving his D Type in the hillclimb (which I think you may miss) and the Sprint - which is the Grand Prix over the weekend. There are several Astons on Malta but none seem to be racing.

This is a great event and you will enjoy it enormously.

I participated in 2011 and drove there from UK in my DB6 so that I could take part in the Concourse (which we won). The Best of Show prize was a beautiful glass trophy specially made by hand by the owner of Mdina Glass who is a keen car nut.

Although it is called The Valletta Grand Prix it is actually in the city of Mdina. From Valletta you can take a bus to Rabat. It is really easy to get to and Mdina is a must see city on the Island.

The participants are all great people but it can be a bit chaotic. They are Mediterraneans after all. I maid some good friends there and know the Area Rep George Said. If you see him please pass on my best wishes.

What else do you need to know?

Well we made it. Only Aston was George Said's (see pics).  I said hi to him, but sorry David I hadn't seen your post by then. A great variety of cars, and a great event in impressive surroundings. We did pass through Buggeba/Bigiba (the spellchecker has fun with that) but were just changing buses. Might try to find the car museum later.

Thanks all who replied. Now I just have to lie back and enjoy the sunshine!

Excellent venue to hold a car show too. Enjoy your holiday and do try to find the car museum in Biggiba if you can and have time.

Remember some years ago hiring a car in Malta and being advised; in England you drive on the left, in Europe they drive on the right, in Malta we drive in the shade!!!
